Software updates

As new cars are launched the software in the Showmode controller will need updating to support them, also changes in the cars might require updating the Showmode controller.  Software updates for the Showmode controller are available for download as they become available. It is important that the latest software is downloaded and installed in the controller to avoid error messages in the car. You can activate e-mail notifications to receive an e-mail when new software is available by requesting this from .

 

 

Updating the software

To update the software, you need a personal computer, a micro USB cable (included in the kit) and the downloaded software file.

Follow the instructions below;

  1. Download the software from the link on this page, store the downloaded file at a location you can remember, like the desktop or in “My documents”. Note that there are two options for the software, Standard or Extended. Standard is recommended for dealer showrooms from MY26. Extended is for Volvo Cars events and road shows.
  2. Connect the Showmode controller to your computer using a USB cable and keep the PROGRAM button on the controller pressed while doing so.
  3. The controller shall be detected as a USB flash drive if step 2 was successful. If not, just disconnect, press the programming button and reconnect again.
  4. Open the detected USB drive and delete the firmware.bin file that is stored on it.
  5. Copy the downloaded software file to the controller USB drive.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable, the programming is finished.

The current software version will be shown in the DIM during the startup sequence of Volvo Car Showmode.

If the controller is not detected as a USB drive on your corporate computer, this can be due to corporate security policies. The easiest solution for this is to use a private / non corporate computer instead.

New features in version 9.9.x and 9.8.x

Version 9.9.x is the Standard version, with normal functionality, new features and functions are;
– Support for MY27 vehicles with build date from W17.
– Support for SPA2, activating and deactivating built in Show mode.
– Improved airflow/cooling of CSD area for later model year cars.
– Vehicles with air suspension workaround to recalibrate every seven days.
– Improvements and fixes.

Version 9.8.x is an extended functionality version that includes all fixes from the main version but puts the car in a higher state to show more functionality, such as the 360 cameras. However you might need to disable the power steering by pulling a fuse. Some features are only available for specific VIN numbers as requested by events and road shows. The extended version also allows to operate power windows.

Known functional limitations

– SPA1 and SPA2 vehicles with air suspension has a known problem with the air suspension calibration after standing still for an extended period. As a temporary work around Show mode will stop after seven days on such vehicles. To recalibrate start the car using the key and wait for calibration of air suspension. After this is done you can start Show mode for another seven days again.

– For MY23 and later cars, the windshield wipers cannot be disabled by Showmode.
