Volvo Car Show mode

Connect and startup

How to connect the Volvo Car Show mode and startup.

  1. Make sure there is no visual damage on the power supply housing or the battery and mains cables. Do not use if there is damage.
  2. If you are using the Primepower Showmode Charger 12/50A, make sure the DIP switch connector is set to 010 (14.2V with battery detection active).
  3. It is recommended that the car has the latest software status, ensure this by running a total upgrade using VIDA .
  4. Open the hood and place the power supply unit beside the engine. Choose a location where air can flow around the unit and the hood can be closed. On some cars the power supply does not fit under the hood. Then the power supply shall be placed under the car.

    alternatively
  5. Route the mains cable down to the floor inside the engine compartment. Normally this is best done on the right hand side of the car down towards the drive shaft of the front right wheel.
  6. Connect the red wire to battery positive and black (or blue) to chassis. Consult the car user manual if you are unsure.
    The clamps should be connected with as large electrical surface as possible between the connector and the terminal to improve the current transmission and reduce heat generation.

    Please note that on BEV-cars the 12V terminals are hidden. It is therefore recommended to use the separately supplied Show mode cable with screw terminals, clamps are not advisable. Connect the 12V cable to the car terminals 2 (positive) and 4 (negative) as shown below, the battery in the picture below symbolizes the Showmode charger. Click here for more information on this (the link applies to XC40 BEV, you can find silimar information for all models in the user manual for the vehicle).
  7. Connect the mains power and check the power supply unit indicators as follows;
    On the Primepower Show mode charger the green LED should be lit.
    On the DEFA Showroom charger, choose “14,7” for BEV cars and “Li” when using Show mode with the 12V battery disconnected.
  8. Prepare the car for Show mode;
    – Turn of the wipers.
    – Switch the running lights to automatic.
    – Ensure the car key is not in the car.
    – Connect the Showmode controller to the OBD connector under the dashboard, the car will wake up within 10-20 seconds. The DIM will display information regarding the car and Show mode software version during startup.
  9. Error messages that appear in the driver display (DIM) can be removed from the display by pressing on the OK-button (READ button) on the steering wheel (see picture below). The warning triangle (RED or YELLOW) may remain in the display and it is normal when using the Show mode.
